About the church

Austral-Asian Christian Church (the Church) is a tri-lingual speaking (Cantonese, Mandarin and English), non-denominational church of approximately 300 members. The Church is located in the city of Adelaide, with walking distance to Chinatown.

About the role

The Pastor leads the fast-growing English-speaking congregation and builds a diverse community that celebrates its context, stories, and experiences. He/she also creates a place of worship for the present and future generations.

The Pastor takes up the responsibilities of providing pastoral care for the English-speaking congregation and leading the English ministries and operations of the Church guided by the Church Management Committee (CMC), for the glory of God and the building up of His body.

Reporting and working relationships

The Pastor is responsible and accountable to the Senior Pastor. An annual performance review will be led by the Senior Pastor.

The Pastor provides support to the Associate Pastor and sets directions for the English-speaking congregation. He/she also provides one-on-one mentoring on a regular basis.

What you will do

The Pastor provides spiritual and pastoral leadership to the members of the English-speaking congregation by:

• Coordinating and collaborating with staff and volunteers in worship ministry
• Coordinating the English-speaking children’s ministry
• Preaching the Word of God on a regular basis
• Providing pastoral care for the congregation and community members
• Collaborating with the Senior pastor to accomplish church missions
• Providing leadership training and discipleship to volunteers and ministry members
• Collaborating with pastoral staff to develop long-term pathways for next generations
• Performing evangelistic and outreach activities

What we look for

• Holds of at least a bachelor’s in Christian Theology (or equivalent)
• A team player who is willing to collaborate with the greater church body
• Demonstrated understanding of cultures and values different to their own, and willingness to learn about different cultures and values
• Demonstrated effective time management and organisational skills
• Passion for pastoral care
• Demonstrated several years of paid experience in Christian pastoral ministry
• Experienced in one-on-one mentoring and disciple making
• Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively in a team and effective time-management/organisational skills
• Must be in agreement with the objectives and Doctrinal Basis of the Church
• Positive towards non-denominational church

Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills

• Familiar with the Australian and Chinese culture, and preferably living/ have lived in Australia (desirable)
• Able to provide worship training (desirable)
• Computer literate
• Effective administrative skill
• Effective problem-solving skill
• Effective in conflict resolution
• Evidence of own professional development
• Diligent and conscientious
• Caring and considerate

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
